We’ve made a big step in the pet-owning world: last Friday, July 27th, we purchased an awesome ball python from Petsmart! We’ve always had a desire to own a slithery companion, and now that our change jar has been emptied, we can has one. There were two at the Petsmart we visited, one with half a shed still attached and one who was more seclusive. Opting for the more adventurous, we soon had a small, 15″ ball python in our new 10 gallon terrarium. He seems to have taken kindly to his new domicile.
When we were checking out the pythons, we noticed the humidity was a mere 30%, well below the recommended 60-70% for a shed cycle. This became increasingly apparent when the remaining shed failed to come off. Sir Salazar would constantly mash his face into everything (especially the walls): thus, ‘Smoosh’. At any rate, we recently helped remove the majority of his loose skin, leaving only a small, sensitive patch on his nose. Hopefully he’ll get that off soon so we can feed him.
